Titans News · Lorain Track kicks-off 2021 Season with strong competition and strong winds at Avon Lake Invitational

April 3, 2021 – Avon Lake, Ohio – What started out as a cool morning turned out into a wonderful but windy day of tough competition at the Avon Lake Invitational.  Your Lorain Titans were one of seventeen (17) High School teams to descend upon Avon Lake High School on what will surely prove to be one of the premier early season meets in North-East Ohio Track and Field.  The invitational format meant that only two athletes per team could compete and points were only awarded to the top 8 places in fields as large as 34 competitors!

The Highest place event finisher for the Titans was Senior High Jumper, Julissa Williams, who finished 2nd in her signature event in a field of 26 competitors!  With the event starting at 9:00 am when the temps were still in the high 30s, Julissa took time to warm-up and found herself struggling to clear heights early-on.  Fortunately, the veteran jumper was able to clear 5’0″ for her second consecutive competition to finish 2nd overall and earn 8 points for your Lady Titans! In addition to her jumping well, it was also Julissa’s Birthday! Happy Birthday Julissa!!!

While Julissa was doing her thing on the High Jump apron, Senior sprinter Mikiya Hermon found her way to the infield for her second ever competition in the Long Jump.  While dealing with blustery winds which made for tough jumping conditions, Mikiya was able to break the sand at 15’02.25″, a personal best, to finish 8th and earn one point for your Lady Titans!

However, Mikiya wasn’t done scoring for the Titans as she finished 3rd in her signature event, the 100M Dash.  In a competitive field and running into a negative 0.2 wind, Mikiya ran a fine early season time of 12.86 seconds for her first 100M of the year!  What made this result even better was that her sophomore sister, Nakeya Hermon, joined her in the final where she finished 6th, earning 3 points, with a time of 13.05 seconds, a personal best time! Apparently, there must be speed in the Hermon genes!

Nakeya Hermon was excited about her 6th place finish in the 100M Dash!

The other Lady Titan to score individually was sophomore Dalasha Pruchinsky who finished 7th in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:03.56, a personal best, which earned 2 points for the team.

Dalasha Pruchinsky was pleased with her early season form!

In the Relay events, the foursome of Dalasha Pruchinsky, sophomore Natalie Patterson, Nakeya Hermon and Mikiya Hermon, ran a season’s best time of 1:53.06 to finish 6th overall and earn 3 points for the Lady Titans.

The Lorain Titan 4x200m Relay team of N. Patterson, D. Pruchinsky, M. Hermon  and N. Hermon finished 6th in a season’s best time.

The lone boy to Score for your Titans was senior Michael Hermon who finished 8th in the Long Jump with a distance of 18’11.50″ to earn 1 point.
