Titans News · After a season lost to Covid, Lorain has a tune-up meet against Elyria to kick-off the season!


March 30, 2021 – Elyria, Ohio – After a season cancelled by COVID, your Lorain Titans were ecstatic to lace-up their spikes for their first outdoor competition since the 2019 Ohio State Meet!  On a picture perfect day with temps hovering around 70, the Lorain Titans opened up their season with a friendly duel meet against Elyria.  While the rust was evident, the Titans had some solid early season performances as they prepare for the Avon Lake Invitational this weekend.

Not missing a beat in her return to the Track, senior Julissa Williams, had  solid performances with first place finishes in the High Jump (5’0″) and Long Jump (15’8″) and a third place finish in the 300M hurdles (57.4)! Williams has already committed to Wittenberg University for her collegiate career and she has already made her mark on this young season. Williams was joined by sophomore High Jumper Natalie Patterson who finished 3rd with a jump of 4’6″.  In the Long Jump, senior sprinter Mikiya Hermon tried her hand at the Long Jump where she finished 3rd with a jump of 14’5″.  In the throws, the Titans had success as well as Dezire Tinsley-Lumpkin finished 1st in the Discus with a throw of 78’6″ and was 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 24’8″.

In the sprints, Sophomore Nakeya Hermon, who ended the 2020 indoor season as the fastest freshman in the state of Ohio in the 60 Meter dash, finished 1st in the 200M with a time of 26.8 seconds and Sophomore Dalasha Pruchinsky was 3rd with a time of 28.78 seconds.  In the 400M Dash, the Lady Titans swept the event as Pruchinsky was 1st (1:04.6), Senior Tylea Bryant was 2nd (1:07.3) and Sophomore Talayiah Brooks was 3rd (1:08.4).  In the Middle-Distance events, Tylea Bryant won the 800M with a sprint in the last 100m to finish in 2:44.02 seconds.

In the Relays, the quartet of Mikiya Hermon, Otero, Pruchinsky and Nakeya Hermon won the 200M Relay in a time of 1:57.42 seconds.  To close out the meet,  the 4x400M relay of Pruchinsky, Mikiya Hermon, Senior McKenzie Patterson and Bryant, won with a solid early season time of 4:40.59.

On the Boys side, Senior Michael Hermon was 2nd in the Long Jump (18’11”) and Junior Dom Wilson and Freshman Martice Hermon tied for 3rd in the High Jump.  Fresh off his senior basketball season and giving Track a try for the first time, Senior Kam Thomas finished tied for 1st in the Shot Put with a throw of 36’3.5″, while Jerry Martin was 2nd in the discus with a throw of 98’7″.

In the sprints, Robert Gonzalez was 3rd in the 100M Dash with a time of 12.03 seconds. Meanwhile, Michael Hermon was 2nd in the 200M with a time of 24.02 and Lorain County’s Mr. Basketball, Seth Wilson, who temporarily left the hardwood for the track, was 3rd with a time of 24.3 seconds.  In the 400M, Sophomore Damarion Pruchnisky was 2nd in the 400M (58.5) and fellow Titan Basketball starter Jaco Lee was 3rd.  In the middle distance events, Pruchnisky was 3rd in the 800M in a time of 2:39.2 seconds.  In the 110M hurdles, Luis Maldonado finished 2nd and Dom Wilson finished 3rd, while in the 300 Hurdles, Maldonado and Wilson finished 2nd and 3rd again!

In the Relays, the Lorain 4x100M team of Wilson, Lee, Gonzalez and Hermon was 2nd in a time of (45.92).  While the team of Wilson, Gotay-Cotto, Michael Hermon and Gonzalez won the 4 x 200M in a time of 1:37.15 seconds.  Finally, the 4 x 400M team of Gotay-Cotto, Martice Hermon, Pruchinsky and Lee closed out the duel meet with a Titan victory in a time of 3:56.34!
