Titans News · Williams and Vaughn Break School Records at Oberlin Indoor Meet


January 11, 2020 – Oberlin, Ohio – On an unseasonably warm and wet day that felt more like early April than early January, the Lorain Titans opened up their 2020 Indoor season at Oberlin College.

Girls Recap: Starting her season off where she left-off last year, Junior Julissa Williams opened her season with an outstanding school record breaking performance of 5’2″ in the girls High Jump.  She was joined by junior McKenzie Patterson 4’4″ and Freshman Natalie Patterson 4’0″ in the High Jump.  In the 60 M Dash, Seniors Heaven Shoulders (9.27) and Namarie Collazo (10.14) started their indoor seasons and also competed in the 200 M Dash with Shoulders running (33.03) and Collazo running (35.00).  In the 400M Dash, McKenzie Patterson finished 5th in a fine early season time of 1:10.23. In the 800M, Junior Ty’lea Bryant opened her season up with a 3:12.68.

Boys Recap: Senior Joseph Vaugh opened up his indoor season with a bang as he launched the Shot Put a school record 39-08.25 feet to finish 2nd in the event.  In the 60M Dash, Senior Tavion Black finished 6th overall (7.53) with a (7.59) in the Preliminary Round, Sophomore Robert Gonzalez finished 8th overall in (7.62) with a (7.58) in the Prelims,  Senior Michael Hermon was 10th overall (7.70) but ran the 4th fastest time in the prelims (7.42).  Sophomore Jermaine Childs (8.07), Junior Dominic Wilson (8.44) and Sophomore Antonio Burgett (8.50) also competed in the 60 M dash.

In the 200M Dash, Hermon was 4th (24.47) and Black was 8th (24.93), Gonzalez was 15th (26.39), Junior Kam Jones was 16th (26.65), while Sophomore Jermaine Childs ran (26.74), Burgett ran (27.45), Wilson ran (28.59) and Senior Alexis Oyola ran (29.38).  In the 400M Dash, Senior Michael Bodiford opened his season with a 14th place finish (1:00.24) and Jones finished 18th with a time of (1:01.74).  In the 800M, Luis Rodriguez opened up with at time of (2:55.85).  The Boys 4x200M team of Black, Childs, Sophomore Luis Maldonado, and Hermon finished 1st with a time of (1:40.21).

Your Lorain track teams will be back in action on Sunday, January 26th at Oberlin College.
