Amherst, Ohio – May 22, 2019 – In the only final event for Lorain participants on Wednesday, Sophomore Julissa Williams, scored at the Regional meet with a jump of 5’0″ to earn 1 point for the Lorain Titans. Though this was the first time that she earned points at the Regional meet, she was not pleased with her result and looks forward to a better results next year! Great job on an excellent season Julissa!
In the Girls 100M Dash, Sophomore Mikiya Hermon finished 2nd in her heat with a time of 12.47 seconds and will advance for the second consecutive year to the 100M Regional Final! With that time, Mikiya has the 5th fastest time in qualifying and remains in the mix to finish in the top four to advance to the state meet for the second consecutive year. Additionally, the Girls 4 x 200M relay team consisting of Nadarriea Higginbotham, Nae Curry, Brionna Barker and Mikiya Hermon finished with the 8th fastest time and qualified for Friday’s final with a time of 1:46.21 seconds and will run on Friday. To round things out on the sunny and windy May day, Mikiya Hermon ran 26.24 seconds in the 200M Dash and did not advance and the 4 x 100M Relay team of Higginbotham, Barker, Aliyah Thomas and Hermon tied their season best with a time of 50.50 but failed to advance to Friday’s final!
On the boys side, Lorain Junior DaQuise Clinton finished 2nd in his heat in his signature event, the 400 M Dash, with a time of 49.53 seconds and will advance to Friday’s final. He currently has the 5th fastest time among the boys as he looks to make his first state birth as a titan (the top four advance). In the Boys 4 x 200M Relay, the Boys team of DaQuise Clinton, Michael Hermon, Tavion Black and David Taylor finished 13th with a time of 1:31:94 seconds and will not advance.
Mikiya Hermon (100 M Dash Final), the Girls 4 x 200M Relay Final and DaQuise Clinton (400M Dash Final) will all be in action on Friday (May 24th, 2019) at Amherst Steel High School starting at 6:00 p.m. State title birth will be on the line for anyone who can finish in the top four at the Regional Meet!
