The Lorain City Schools Lady Titans basketball program had a monumental day yesterday! The General Johnnie Wilson 8th grade girls’ basketball team defeated Longfellow 42-31 in the Lake Erie League Championship by a score of 42-31 finishing the season a perfect 17-0. Both teams did a tremendous job of representing their school and community as the game was fast and physical with both teams competing until the very end. After the game, Taylor Whitfield (Longfellow) and Marissa Otero (GJW) were awarded All-Tournament honors. Nashiya Higgins (SV) also received All-Tournament honors for her efforts. Makenzie Willbond (GJW) was awarded Best Offensive Player while Ja’Neja Nelson-Riley (GJW) was honored as Best Defensive Player, and Dalasha Prunchinsky (GJW) received the Most Valuable Player Award.
The General Johnnie Wilson 7th grade team also competed for the Lake Erie League Championship yesterday as they defeated Monticellow Middle School on the road by a score of 24-19. Trinity Gunder was awarded the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The team finished the season with a 13-3 record.
