Boys Varsity Football · Lorain’s Marc Rodriguez takes LHS TITAN Football kicking to a new level

October 6, 2018 – Lorain, Ohio – Over the years, the Lorain Titans football team has been an offensive juggernaut; scoring fast and furiously. However, until last year the Lorain Titans were forced to go for the two point conversion because of a lack of a kicking game. That all changed in 2017 when Blake Bartlome (Class of 2018) set a school record with 19 extra points. Where Blake started a new day for kicking in Lorain, Junior Marc Rodriguez has raised kicking to a new standard.

Prior to 2018, Marc Rodriguez was purely a soccer player, he had never thought about or even attempted to kick a football. However, during this past summer, Marc was prodded into trying to kick a football through the uprights and the rest has been history.  He decided to make kicking his primary focus and the Lorain Titans varsity team has been the beneficiary of his new found commitment to football.

With senior Kelvin Torres as the primary snapper and sophomore Ethan Nicol as the holder, Marc is already a school record best 26 of 30 (86%) for PATs (points after touchdowns) on the year!  For the season for PATs, Marc was a perfect 6 of 6  vs Midview; he was 3 of 3 vs Euclid; 2 of 3 vs Elyria; 6 of 7 vs Canada St. Joseph; 2 of 3 vs Canada Clarkson; 3 of 3 vs Cleveland Heights; and 4 of 5 vs Warrensville Heights.  He also kicks-off for Lorain High and has two tackles and two recovered on-side kicks this season.

Realizing that this is a team effort, Marc’s school record for PATs is only the result of his PAT/FG special team consisting of Arthur Lucas, Colin Thomas, Jace Tarpley, Yousef Alzeer, Darien Martinez, Isaiah McDowell, Mike Smith, Isaiah Hicks, Nate Melendez and Matt Weatherspoon.  Lorain is looking forward to continued success for the Lorain junior as he continues to excel at kicking for Lorain.
