Girls Varsity Track · Freshmen and LEL Confernce Champions Hermon and Williams show abilities beyond their years as they prepare for their first District Track meet

Freshmen Mikiya Hermon and Julissa Williams have both enjoyed phenomenal seasons that one wouldn’t normally expect from freshman; However, Mikiya and Julissa aren’t your normal freshman! While Mikiya has excelled on the track, Julissa excelled on the field and they both proved that age is nothing but a number.

Mikiya Hermon, who also played JV softball for the Titans, found time to dominate on the track during the 2018 track season in the 100 and 200m dashes. With personal bests of 12.49 (Lorain County Invite) and 26.68 (Vermilion Invitational), Mikiya never finished worst than 5th all season among some of the toughest competition in north eastern Ohio. Mikiya’s dominance was evidenced by virtue of her being Lorain County Invitational Champion in the 100m and 200m; Vermilion Invitational champion in the 100m and 200m; and runner-up in the 100m at the Avon Relays, Kimberly Relays and Avon Lake invitational. In addition to her individual success, Mikiya also served as anchor of several successful 4x100m relay and 4x200m relay teams for the lady Titans.

While Hermon was burning up the track, fellow freshman Julissa Williams has been a beast on the High Jump apron during the 2018 track season. With the exception of her first meet at Avon Lake, where she “only” jumped 4’6″ in freezing temperatures, Julissa has not jumped less than 4’9″, which happens to be an inch higher than the previous school record. Moreover, Julissa has only lost to one high jumper in Lorain County during her freshman campaign and has jumped over 5’0″ on three separate occasions, with her personal best of 5’1″ coming at the Lake Erie League championship meet where she was crowned conference champion as a freshman. When Julissa wasn’t winning on her own, she teamed up with McKenzie Patterson to finish 2nd at the Kimberly Relays and Avon Reynolds Relays and was third at the prestigious East Lake North Ranger Relays. In addition to being an outstanding high jumper, Julissa has also found success on the girls 4 x 100m relay team and in the 300m hurdles.

Be sure to check out these two phenom Freshman and the rest of the Lady Titans at the State District Track meet starting on Wednesday, May 16th at 4:00 p.m. at Amherst High School.
